SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's ice hockey team will take on local CNY opponent and the No. 4 ranked Clarkson Golden Knights on Tuesday, Nov. 10th at 7 p.m. The game caps off a stretch of 10-of-11 games on the road for the Orange, including four straight against CHA opponents.
The Orange (5-5-1, 3-1-1) just went 1-0-1 in a two-game series at Lindenwood this past weekend. Sophomore Dakota Derrer opened the scoring, breaking the 0-0 deadlock early in the second period. The Orange was then carried by a goal and an assist from seniors Melissa Piacentini and Nicole Ferrara, while sophomore Stephanie Grossi assisted on both of their goals.
Grossi gave Syracuse an early lead in the following game, beating the keeper just over seven minutes after the opening faceoff. However, with just over two minutes remaining in regulation, Shannon Morris-Reade tallied her fourth goal of the season to equalize the score. Senior goaltender Jenn Gilligan had 20 saves, including three in the overtime period to keep the game tied.
Following the busy weekend, the Orange returns to the east coast to close out its road trip with a chance for revenge against No. 4 Clarkson (10-1-2, 1-1-2 ECAC).
The Golden Knights opened the season with nine consecutive wins, but since then have gone just 1-1-2. Clarkson has defeated Syracuse in each of the last nine matchups, including a 3-1 win in the Orange season opener.
SCOUTING CLARKSON
The Golden Knights are 4-0-0 at home in 2015, but have hit a rough patch as of late, winning just one of their last four games.
Cayley Mercer leads the way offensively for Clarkson. Her 12 goals and 19 total points lead the ECAC. Olivia Howe and Genevieve Bannon each have 10 assists, and Howe's 14 total points is second best in the ECAC, while Bannon is tied for third with 13.
Shea Tiley stands between the pipes for Clarkson. She has posted an 8-1-1 record this season, garnering a .944 save percentage to go with her 1.17 GAA.
