
‘Cuse Skates To 5-1 Loss At #4 Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y.- The Syracuse women's ice hockey team was unable to generate many scoring chances against No. 4 Clarkson on Tuesday night, losing by a final score of 5-1 at Cheel Arena in non-conference play.
Sophomore Megan Quinn scored the lone goal for Syracuse (5-6-1) with only 31 seconds left on the clock, making it difficult for the Orange to mount a comeback. Clarkson (11-1-2) had five different players find the back of the net with the help of Cayley Mercer. Mercer finished the contest with three assists to lead the Golden Knights with three points.
"Clarkson has some skilled players that can make some skilled plays. Physically, they are a strong team," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "We have to move forward and learn from it. We have to push each other more and become a stronger team so we can really physically compete."
The Orange had 21 total shots on goal compared to 34 coming from the Golden Knights. Senior netminder Jenn Gilligan registered 29 saves in between the pipes while allowing five goals. For Clarkson, Shea Tiley made 20 saves before giving up the goal to Quinn on an Orange two-man advantage.
Clarkson scored in the first three minutes of play and never looked back, taking a 2-0 advantage into the second frame. The Golden Knights then extended its lead to 4-0 headed into the third period. Both sides tallied a goal in the third before Syracuse fell by a final score of 5-1.
Syracuse will play next against Cornell on Saturday at 3 p.m. inside War Memorial at the Oncenter. Both live video and live stats can be accessed via Cuse.com.
