SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse softball program announced the additions of Alexa Romero and Toni Martin to its incoming class, marking the first recruiting class under Head Coach Mike Bosch.
Â
"We are excited to make our class of 2020 official," Bosch said. "These two players compose a high level of pitching, speed, power and tremendous athleticism and both fill needs that we see for our team for the 2017 season."
Â
"These student-athletes understand the elite educational opportunity available to them here, and have the ability to make an immediate impact on all aspects of our program."
Â
Alexa Romero
Denver, Colo.   Â
Eaglecrest High School
Â
A starter on varsity since her freshman year to captain her senior year, Romero has been an asset for her high school softball team. She has accumulated a .412 batting average, 66 runs batted in and five home runs throughout her career. As a pitcher, Romero posted a 2.97 earned run average and picked up 269 strikeouts. She has led her team to the state championship tournament all four years and was the pitcher in the 2015 All-State game.
Â
Her talents have been evident through her numerous honors, receiving All-City, All-Conference, and All-State honors, plus earning a USSSA State Championship MVP title. The four year varsity letterwinner's hard work translates off the field, as she was accepted into the honors program at her high school, earning a spot on the honor roll every year.
Â
In addition to her high school team, Romero plays for American Freedom Travel Team, which in 2015 finished 13th at the 18U PGF Platinum Tournament.
Â
Toni Martin
Raymore, Mo.
Raymore-Peculiar High SchoolÂ
Â
Since joining the varsity team her freshman year, Martin has developed into an all-conference player. In her four seasons on varsity and as captain her junior and senior year, she led her team to be crowned District Champions two years in a row.
Â
Martin's defense has been recognized as a valuable asset to her team, receiving All-Conference Outfield, Raymore-Peculiar High School's Perfect Fielding Percentage, and All-District Outfield First Team. Adding to her performance on defense, Martin has excelled offensively, accumulating a .392 batting average and a .453 on base percentage with 119 hits and two home runs throughout her career.
Â
Martin's accomplishments on the field have been just as exceptional off the field. As a part of the top 5% of her class, she was named Academic All-State and earned a spot on the honor roll all three years.
Â
Along with her high school team, Martin has competed for a number of travel teams, including Team Power-Brown and Team Power-Zahn, and currently plays for the DeMarini Aces. The Aces finished in the top 25 at the PGF Nationals in 2015.
