SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's ice hockey team will take on College Hockey America opponent Lindenwood in a two-game series this weekend to continue a six-game road stretch. Syracuse will face off with the Lady Lions on Friday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 7 at 4 p.m.
The Orange (4-5-0, 2-1 CHA) is coming off a split in its last two-game conference pair with Robert Morris last weekend and have won three of its last five games. In the Friday matchup, sophomore Dakota Derrer gave the Orange a 3-2 lead early in the third period, netting her first collegiate goal. Classmate Alysha Burris scored two goals while also dishing out an assist on Derrer's goal in the eventual 4-3 OT victory. Junior Jessica Sibley scored the game-winning goal for the Orange just over a minute into the overtime period, picking up two major points for Syracuse.Â
Senior Jenn Gilligan finished the weekend with 30 saves and held Robert Morris scoreless for the first 53 minutes of the second game. However, two goals in the last seven minutes gave the Colonials the victory. Sibley dominated the dot, winning 19 of 32 faceoffs.
Following the 2-0 loss, Syracuse will look to rebound in conference play against Lindenwood (3-4-1, 1-0-1 CHA).
"We look for Lindenwood to be a really tough opponent. They have been on a roll and are playing at home again so they haven't had to travel in a few weeks," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "They are playing with a lot of confidence and have one of the top scorers in the league with [Shara] Jasper. We will have to bare down and pay close attention to detail and get ourselves mentally and physically prepared."
The Lady Lions are currently on a four-game unbeaten streak, posting a 3-0-1 record throughout that span after opening the season with four straight losses.
