
Late Goal Sends Orange To 1-1 Tie With Lindenwood

WENTZVILLE, Mo.- Sophomore Stephanie Grossi gave the Syracuse women's ice hockey team a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the first period on Saturday afternoon, but Lindenwood notched the game up late in the third, as the Orange skated to a 1-1 tie against the Lady Lions in College Hockey America play.

Senior netminder Jenn Gilligan was strong in between the pipes for Syracuse (5-5-1, 3-1-1 CHA), registering 20 saves to hold Lindenwood (3-5-2, 1-1-2 CHA) scoreless for majority of the contest. Grossi's goal in the first frame kept the Orange on top until Shannon Morris-Reade tied the game up with just over two minutes left to play.

Both sides recorded 40 shots, but Lindenwood goaltender Nicole Hensley was spectacular in net, securing a game-high 39 saves. The Orange had 40 shots on net compared to 21 coming from the Lady Lions.

Although sophomore Alysha Burriss did not find the back of the net, she led the Orange with seven total shots. Grossi finished with five shots while five other Syracuse players had three or four shots toward Hensley.

Grossi put the Orange up 1-0 at the 7:36 mark, accepting a pass from senior Nicole Ferrara and firing a blast past Hensley. The sophomore is continuing another solid season for the Orange, leading the team with 15 points, including 11 assists and four goals.

After going unbeaten throughout the weekend, the Orange are tied with Mercyhurst at the top of the CHA with seven points.
