Piacentini Nets Two Goals In Setback To No. 2 Boston College

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Senior Melissa Piacentini scored two goals for the Syracuse women's ice hockey team against No.2 Boston College on Thursday afternoon, but it was not enough as the Orange fell to the Eagles by a final score of 7-2.

Syracuse (8-10-2) trailed 6-0 before Piacentini got the Orange on the board at the 8:35 mark in the second frame. Alex Carpenter led undefeated Boston College (20-0-0) with four goals while Haley Skarupa dished out four assists for the Eagles.

Senior netminder Jenn Gilligan made the start in between the pipes for the Orange, registering eight saves before getting pulled in the second period. Freshman Maddi Welch saw action for the second time this season, tallying a career-high 23 saves while giving up two goals.

The Eagles outshot Syracuse by 38-19 in the contest. Boston College goaltender Katie Burt made 17 saves, allowing both Orange goals off the stick of Piacentini.

The Orange will return to the ice on Friday, January 4 when the squad hosts Colgate in non-conference play.
