Syracuse couldn’t hold off the offense of Notre Dame in Saturday’s doubleheader
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Syracuse fell in both games of its doubleheader with the Fighting Irish on Saturday afternoon at Melissa Cook Stadium. No. 25 Notre Dame defeated the Orange 10-1 in game one and grinded out a 7-6 victory in game two.
Game One Highlights
Notre Dame Comes Out Swinging
Notre Dame burst out to a lead in a hurry with two home runs in the first with one out to drive in three runs. The Fighting Irish followed up with three more runs in the second on back-to-back singles after the first two batters reached base. Two more runs were added in the third on a walk and a wild pitch to put the run-rule in effect as the Irish led 8-0 after three.
A leadoff walk by Dombrowski and a single by Burkhardt in the next at-bat gave the Orange a first and third situation with no outs. Taking advantage of the RBI opportunity, Fernandez skied a ball to deep center in order to score Dombrowski from third and cut Notre Dame's lead to seven. However, the run is all Syracuse would get as Notre Dame scored two in the bottom of the inning and shut out the Orange in the top of the fifth to win, 10-1.
