Louisville Rallies to Defeat Orange in ACC Tournament

Syracuse falls 4-3
No. 13 seed Louisville took down the No. 12 seed Syracuse 4-3 in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday, in a match that saw four matches head to three sets.
After Louisville took the doubles point, the Orange rebounded to take a 3-1 lead, before the Cardinals rallied to take the final-three matches (each of which went three sets) to advance past the Orange in the ACC Tournament opener.
"It's sad to have our season come to an end today, but I am so proud of this group and how much heart and toughness they showed all year long," said head coach Younes Limam. "As coaches, this is all we can ask for."
Seniors Amanda Rodgers and Komal Safdar each rolled to singles wins to help the Orange out to an early lead.
Rodgers, who earned All-ACC Third Team honors on Wednesday, defeated Elle Stokes 6-0, 6-3 at first singles, before Safdar defeated Ariana Rodriguez 6-4, 6-3.
Rhiann Newborn pushed the 'Cuse lead to three by taking the first of the four matches that went the distance. She rallied from 6-1 first set loss to defeat Jessie Lynn Paul 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
However, the Cardinals would force a third set on the remaining three courts and take the win from the Orange.
Manuela Velasquez topped Valeria Salazar 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 and Olivia Boesing defeated Breanna Bachini 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to even things up at three with Nicole Mitchell's match deadlocked at five each in the final set the match which would determine the outcome.
Chloe Willetts managed to hold on in the third set to defeat Mitchell 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
In doubles play, Louisville earned wins from Willetts and Rodriguez over Salazar and Safdar 8-6, and Stokes and Boesing defeated Mitchell and Bachini 8-6 to steal the point.
Rodgers and Newborn took their court 8-3 over Pough and Velasquez.
