Syracuse senior Komal Safdar is on the Capital One Academic All-District Team, which was announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.
The Doris Soladay Award recipient at the ninth-annual 'Cuse Awards, which is considered the highest honor a Syracuse student-athlete can receive, Safdar posted an 29-18 overall record between singles and doubles play this season, including winning her flight at the West Point Invitational during the fall season.
Safdar was one of Syracuse's top doubles players this season as she and partner Valeria Salazar amassed a 9-4 record in doubles play this spring. She also had success with fellow senior Amanda Rodgers, leading the nation's top-ranked doubles tandem, Jessy Rompies and Beatrice Gumulya from Clemson 6-5 at the time their match was halted.
In addition to her on court success, Safdar has excelled in the classroom as well in her time with the Orange. After receiving her degree in biochemistry last week at Syracuse's commencement,
She's put her education to use throughout her time on campus as well, working in a scientific research lab on campus that's involved analyzing genetic pathways that have ties to deadly diseases like cancer.
The Mason, Ohio native is also president of the Syracuse SAAC, where she serves as the student-athletes' liaison to the athletic department and organizes numerous community outreach events for Syracuse student-athletes.
