Track Competes at Stanford and Cornell

The Syracuse track team competed in a pair of events this weekend, at Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational and the Cornell Outdoor Invitational, as the regular season begins its final week.

At Stanford, Justyn Knight turned in a personal best in the 5k, and sixth-fastest time nationally this season. Knight finished the race in second (13:34.86), just ahead of Martin Hehir who took third. Hehir finished in 13:35.70, which is the eighth-fastest time nationally in the event this season.
Knight's time broke a 25-year old school record and set a new Canadian Junior record in the process.
As it stands today, Knight and Hehir are the second and third top-qualifiers for the NCAA East Regional on May 28.
Joel Hubbard (14:06.62), Colin Bennie (14:08.20) and Philo Germano (14:16.89) also ran the 5k at the event.
In the 1500-meters, Margo Malone finished in 4:32.36, in what has been the shortest distance she's run this year. The junior raced in the 10k in her last trip to Stanford in early April.

Sydney Leiher finished 10th in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with a season-best time of 10:27.10
At Cornell, Donald Pollitt turned in a strong performance for Syracuse, taking the win in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.59 seconds.

Freshman Sophia Mossberg won the women's hurdles in 13.77 seconds, followed by Danielle Delgado, who finished third (14.01 seconds) and Regine Hunter, who took fifth (14.25 seconds)

Angelica Peck got the meet started with a win in a season-best time of 10:48.39 in the steeplechase.

The Orange took the top-two spots in the men's 800-meters with Paul Lovell (1:54.09) and Billy Cvecko (1:54.30) finishing in first and second respectively.

The Syracuse women also had a strong showing in the 800-meters, led by a season-best time from Karina Ernst, who won the event in 2:15.97. Right on her heels was Elizabeth Reynolds, finishing in 2:16.40. Nancie Sophias took 10th in the event.

Ernst also ran the 1500-meters on the day, finishing second (4:34.76). Gabriella Kreuz (4:50.33/10th) and Bridget Twomey (4:51.33/12th) also raced in the event.

The 'Cuse men also has a large contingent in the 1500-meters with Joseph Kush leading the way in second (3:55.10). He was followed by Shawn Wilson (3:58.56/4th), Juris Silenieks (4:04.88/7th), Andy Paladino (4:08.85/12th) and Robert Hall (4:15.15/14th).
Rebecca Robinson took second in the 400-meters for the Orange, finishing the event in 53.95 seconds. She was followed by Shasche Allen, who finished seventh with a time of 58.70.

In addition, Kashif Miller took third in the 100-meters with a time of 10.77, while Jabari Butler leaped to a third-place finish in the high jump (1.99 meters), and Reggie Morton took fourth in the long jump (7.07 meters).
Next, the track team will head to Duke for the Duke Twilight meet on Wednesday.
