Former Track Standout Up for Team USA Female Athlete of the Month

Katie Zaferes (formerly Katie Hursey) has medaled in four-straight World Triathlon Series races
Former Syracuse track standout Katie Zaferes (formerly Katie Hursey) is one-of-five athletes up for Team USA Female Athlete of the Month.
An Olympic hopeful in the triathlon, Zaferes has finished in the top-three of four straight ITU World Triathlon Series races, most recently taking Silver at the ITU World Triathlon in Cape Town, South Africa. She also has podium finishes in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Auckland, New Zealand and the Gold Coast race in Australia.
Next up are the fifth and sixth races of the ITU World Triathlon series in Yokohama, Japan (May 16) and London, England (May 30).
A two-time All-American at Syracuse in the 3000-meter steeplechase and the school record holder in the event, Zaferes also competed in cross country for the Orange, beginning her career as a triathlete in 2012 following graduation from the University.
