Orange Sprinters and Jumpers Roll to Wins at Ramapo Opener

Syracuse's sprinters and jumpers returned to action for the first time post-winter break on Friday night at the Ramapo Opener, turning in dominant performances and numerous at its first event in nearly a month.
Tia Thevenin turned in one of the strongest races on the evening, winning the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 8.48 seconds, ahead of teammate Danielle Delgado, who finished second (8.92).
Returning All-American Freddie Crittenden III picked up right where he left off in 2015, cruising to a win in the 60-meter hurdles with a new personal best time of 7.71 seconds. He beat out Orange alums Ramon Sosa (2nd) and Donald Pollitt (3rd). Sophomore David Gilstrap (4th/8.00) and freshmen Richard Floyd (5th/8.07) and Chevis Armstead (6th/8.08) to allow Syracuse and its alums to take the top-six spot.
Defending ACC Indoor Champion Shaina Harrison took second overall in the 60-meter dash, but first among collegiate competitors. Former Orange standout Flings Owusu-Agyapong won the race competing unattached (7.27), with Harrison right behind with a time of 7.40.
'Cuse runners swept the podium in the 400-meter dash, with freshman Kadejhia Sellers taking the win in 54.85 seconds. Senior Rebecca Robinson (2nd/55.16) and sophomore Brittany Belo (3rd/55.54) finished right behind the rookie.
Junior Regine Hunter won the triple jump by leaping to a distance of 12.18 meters. Jabari Butler continued to raise the bar in the high jump, topping out at 2.10 meters to turn in another win for the Orange, while Pascal Bastein's triple jump of 13.95 meters was good for second at the meet.
Victoria Parker earned another Orange win in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 25.34 seconds, over 0.4 seconds ahead of the next closest finisher. Fellow sophomore Kashif Miller took the men's event by finishing in 22.31 seconds – beating his best time from last season by a full two tenths of a second.
The Orange return to action next Saturday at Cornell, looking to continue to build on Friday's strong performances.
