Â
Stony Brook holds a 0-2 overall mark on the 2016-17 campaign. In their last outing, the Seawolves suffered a 67-64 defeat at the hands of Hofstra. Senior forward Elizabeth Manner leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 14.5 points per game.
Â
Spectacular Start
Syracuse kicked off the 2016-17 campaign with a 95-49 thrashing of Rhode Island on Nov. 11. The Orange followed that up with a 102-65 victory against Siena on Nov. 14. For the first time in program history, the team notched at least 90 points in each of its first two games of the season.
Â
Through two games, Syracuse is averaging 98.5 points scored per game, which ranks first in the Atlantic Coast Conference and sixth in the country.
Â
With 95 points scored against Rhode Island, the Orange matched the program record for most points scored in a campaign starter. The squad notched a 95-65 win against Siena on Nov. 21, 1981, as well.
Â
With its 102-65 victory against Siena, Syracuse notched at least 100 points for the first time since a 113-42 win against Maryland Eastern Shore on Nov. 20, 2013 and only the sixth time in program history.
Â
Deep Threat
Freshman guard Gabby Cooper is looking to fill the void left by Brianna Butler, the program's all-time leader in career 3-point field goals made. Cooper has made 3.50 3-point field goals per game this season, which ranks third in the conference and 46th nationally.
Â
In the season opener against Rhode Island on Nov. 11, Cooper became the first Orange freshman to start a game since Alexis Peterson did so against Florida State on Feb. 13, 2014. In addition, she was the first Syracuse rookie to start a campaign starter since Butler, Cornelia Fondren, and Brittney Sykes did so on Nov. 11, 2012 against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Â
Cooper knocked down four 3-point field goals against Rhode Island en route to a 12-point effort. She followed that up with an 11-point performance against Siena on Nov. 14. The Lansing, Ill. native is the first Orange freshman to post at least 10 points in each of the first two games of the season since Erica Morrow did so to kick off the 2007-08 campaign.
