Lydon, Coleman tally sixth-career double-doubles
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A pair of substantial Red Storm runs halted the Orange, as Syracuse (7-5) was defeated by former BIG EAST foe St. John's (6-7), 93-60, on Wednesday night at the Carrier Dome.
Tyler Lydon tallied his sixth-career double-double with a team-leading 16 points and 10 rebounds. DaJuan Coleman also had his sixth-career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Andrew White III had a season-high seven rebounds, while Taurean Thompson added 10 points and four boards. Tyus Battle also added eight points to the offensive effort.
The clubs kept action close to start and were tied, 14-14. St. John's quickly picked up momentum and took control with a game-deciding 12-0 run to lead, 26-14. The Orange never regained the lead.
'Cuse managed to cut the Red Storm lead to nine late in the half, but St. John's pushed forward to secure a 10-point 39-29 lead heading to the locker room.
St. John's didn't slow down in the second half, as the Red Storm came back to tally a lengthy 15-0 run to sit atop of the Orange, 74-48, with 7:54 left on the clock.
Syracuse trailed by as much as 37 points in the second half, but cut the final Red Storm lead to 33 to close out action at the Carrier Dome, 93-60.
The game marks the 91st meeting between the Orange (7-5) and the Red Storm (6-7).
Syracuse returns to the Carrier Dome on Tuesday, Dec. 27 to close out the nonconference season against Cornell. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
