SYRACUSE, N.Y.-Â The Syracuse women's ice hockey heads to Penn State this weekend for a pivotal College Hockey America series starting on Friday night 7 p.m. at Pegula Ice Arena. Both games will be back in action on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for a game live on the Big Ten Network.Â

Syracuse (12-13-3, 8-4-2 CHA) is currently sitting in second place three points ahead of Penn State (9-14-5, 5-4-5) in the CHA standings. Two wins for the Orange this weekend would be huge with the conference tournament right around the corner.
The Orange are coming off a series split with Mercyhurst, losing last Friday 4-1 before bouncing back the following day with a big 2-1 win in overtime. Syracuse trailed 2-1 in the waning moments of the third frame on Friday and pulled senior netminder Jenn Gilligan to get the extra skater, but allowed two goals for the Lakers to prevail. The Orange came out firing on Saturday, outshooting Mercyhurst 34-11 before junior Jessica Sibley buried the game-winning goal on a power play 1:30 into the overtime period.
CHA Standings Oh So Close
With Mercyhurst in first place with a 9-3-2 CHA record and 20 points, the Orange currently reside two points behind the Lakers with an 8-4-2 conference record.
Robert Morris and Penn State are neck and neck behind Syracuse with 16 and 15 points, respectively. The Colonials will take on Mercyhurst this weekend for a two-game series while the Orange duke it out with the Nittany Lions.
With only six CHA games remaining on the Orange schedule, Syracuse will need big weekends against Penn State and Robert Morris to close out a top-two seed in the CHA playoffs to secure a bye into the second round.
Scouting Penn State
The Nittany Lions are currently on a five-game unbeaten streak that includes a series sweep of RIT last weekend. PSU shutout the Tigers on consecutive days, winning Friday 1-0 before a 2-0 win on Saturday.
During the five-game unbeaten streak, three wins have come against RIT. The other two games were a PSU win over Robert Morris 3-2 in overtime and a 2-2 tie with the Colonials.
Amy Petersen leads Penn State with 18 points this season. She leads the Nittany Lions with 13 assists while also having scored five goals. Laura Bowman leads PSU with 10 goals this season. Bowman also has six assists, residing second on the team with 16 points.
Celine Whitlinger and Hannah Ehresmann have split time in between the pipes this season. During the five-game unbeaten streak, both goalies have played every other game. Whitlinger is 5-8-4 this year with a .944 save percentage and 2.54 save percentage. Ehresmann is 4-6-1 with a .916 save percentage and 2.54 goals against average.
