Â
In its last game, Syracuse lost to No. 2/3 Notre Dame, 68-57, in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament final on March 6 in Greensboro, N.C. It marked the Orange's first appearance in the conference championship game in their time as a league member. In addition, the team had its 11-game win streak snapped by the Fighting Irish.
Â
Army West Point enters Friday's contest looking for its first NCAA Tournament victory. The Black Knights sport a 29-2 overall record and won the Patriot League Tournament title. The squad was not ranked in the top 25 of the latest Associated Press Poll, but was among teams still receiving votes. Senior guard Kelsey Minato, espnW's Mid-Major National Player of the Year, leads the way for Army West Point.
Â
Home Court Advantage
The Syracuse women's basketball team holds one of the strongest home court advantages in the nation. Under head coach Quentin Hillsman, Syracuse owns a 77-4 overall record against non-conference opposition at home.
Â
Prior to its loss against Arizona State on Dec. 12, SU had won 72 non-conference home games in-a-row, which was the longest active streak in the nation. Prior to its setback against the Sun Devils, the Orange's last home loss against a non-conference opponent came on Dec. 22, 2006.
Â
Last Time Out
Competing in the program's first Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament title game, Syracuse fell to No. 2/3 Notre Dame, 68-57, at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C. on March 6
Â
Trailing by 12 points at the half, Syracuse came out of the locker room hungry. Junior center Briana Day notched three points early, bringing the Orange back within nine points. That would be the closest it would get and Notre Dame would capture its third straight conference tournament title.
Â
Junior guard Alexis Peterson averaged 18.7 points in the tournament for the Orange, who defeated NC State in the quarterfinals and No. 7/6 Louisville in the semifinals to compete in the title game. Her performance landed her a spot on the All-ACC Tournament First Team.
Â
Senior guard Cornelia Fondren was honored on the ACC All-Tournament Second Team, as well. Fondren scored in double-figures in three straight games, including an 18-point, 13-rebound effort against Louisville.
