Personal Bests Set at ECAC Championships
3/6/2016 6:38:00 PM | Track and Field
The ECAC-IC4A Championships wrapped up the indoor track and field season for the members of the Orange not heading onto nationals this week, and as has been the case for this historic indoor campaign, 'Cuse turned in strong performances once again this weekend.
Richard Floyd finished third in the 60-meter hurdles, sprinting to a time of 8.01 seconds, falling to Hampton's Trey Holloway, an NCAA qualifier, who finished with a time of 7.77 seconds to win the event. Danielle Delgado reached the podium as well in the women's 60-meter hurdles, taking third in 8.69 seconds.
Syracuse once again had a large contingent in the men's mile, with Griff Molino making the finals and finishing seventh (4:09.89) after setting a personal best in the prelims with a time of 4:03.43.
Behind Molino, Joe Kush took 11th overall, crossing the line in 4:10.04, just 0.17 seconds off his career-best mark. Nick Ryan finished 17th in 4:13.46, and Simon Smith also hit a personal record, with a time of 4:15.02, which was good for 23rd.
Mary Malone had a great performance in the 3000-meters, besting her previous career best by over 10 seconds, which was set less than a month earlier on the same track. She finished in 9:43.30, which was good for 11th. Teammate Shaylyn Tuite finished 19th in 9:54.27.
'Cuse also had a deep field in the men's 3000-meters, with Kevyn Hoyos leading the Orange with a fourth place finish (8:06.18). Behind him say more personal best performances, with Juris Silenieks (8:17.47) and Kevin James (8:18.85) hitting their top times and finishing 11th and 12th respectively. Mickey Burke rounded out the 'Cuse crew with a time of 8:19.68 and took 14th.
In the women's mile, Karina Ernst also reached the finals as the only member of the Orange in the event, taking ninth in 5:01.43. Earlier in the meet, she broke the five-minute mark with a time of 4:55.24 in the prelims.
Jabari Butler cleared 1.99 meters in the high jump on his first attempt, a mark that was good for sixth on the afternoon.
Kashif Miller turned in a new personal-best in the 200-meter dash, racing to a time of 21.71 seconds. Miller's mark was good for the 10th-fastest time in the preliminaries, however he was edged by Kwame Fordwor of Northeastern at the line in nearly a dead heat and missed out on the finals.
In the 800-meters, Paul Lovell finished 19th, racing to a time of 1:53.03, which was also a personal best for the junior. Elizabeth Reynolds set her personal-best time in the women's event with a time of 2:13.55, which put her in 13th overall.
Six members of the Orange now continue on to the NCAA Championships, which begin Friday in Birmingham, Alabama. Check back to Cuse.com throughout the week for an event-by-event breakdown of the events the Orange will be competing in.
