SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 13 Syracuse University men's rowing team heads to Annapolis, Md. for its second race of the 2016 regular season, taking on No. 8 Cornell and No. 11 Navy with the Goes Trophy on the line. Syracuse is looking to claim the Goes Trophy for the first time since the 2011 campaign.
Racing will begin at 8 a.m. EST on the Severn River with the first varsity eight competition. The second and third varsity eight races will occur at 8:20 and 8:40 a.m.
Audio from Saturday's race will be available, courtesy of Navy. One can call in and listen at 213-493-0221. An online option is available here, as well.
For those looking to attend the event, racing will take place further up the river than normally. The Navy men's rowing program, in conjunction with its parents' group, are offering spectators the option to watch the regatta from the Harbor Queen Ferry boat. Fans can board at City Dock in downtown Annapolis beginning at 7 a.m. and the boat will depart at 7:15 a.m. For more information on the ferry, click here.
The Orange recently moved up five spots in the latest release of the USRowing Collegiate Poll after knocking off No. 12 Wisconsin in the first varsity eight competition on April 9. It marks Syracuse's highest appearance in the national poll since April 15, 2015.
Cornell is looking to defend the Goes Trophy for the third straight season, taking home the cup in 2014 and 2015. The last time the race was contested in Annapolis, the Midshipmen won the trophy in 2013.
