Seven members of the Orange are going to Eugene
Three more members of the Syracuse track and field team qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, to bring the Orange's total to seven – one shy of last season's program record of eight.
Justyn Knight, Adam Palamar and Freddie Crittenden III all punched their tickets to Eugene, upping 'Cuse's total to 21 NCAA outdoor qualifiers over the past-three seasons. Colin Bennie, Philo Germano, Margo Malone and Shaylyn Tuite had previously qualified on Thursday all in the 10k.
Palamar opened the evening for the Orange, finishing second in his heat to earn an automatic qualifying spot. He crossed the line in 3:46.64 which was the 11th-fastest time overall on the day as the second heat was taken out at a much faster pace. Joel Hubbard also competed in the quarterfinal, finishing in 4:00.48.
Crittenden III posted the second-fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles to punch his ticket to his third-straight NCAA Outdoor Championships. The NCAA indoor runner up crossed the line in 13.43 seconds.
David Gilstrap finished 16th overall in 13.92 seconds in the event, missing a qualifying mark by four spots.
Knight took second in his heat of the 5000-meters to get an automatic qualifying spot to Eugene. He finished 0.01 seconds behind Thomas Curtin of Virginia Tech for the top time on the day in 14:06.45.
'Cuse also had a team in the 4x100-meter relay, which took 21st overall in 40.31 seconds.
The Orange qualifiers will compete at Oregon in two weeks at the NCAA Championships.
