Highest final ranking since the 2002 season
PRINCETON, N.J. – Fresh off a 13th-place showing at the 2016 NCAA Championship, the Syracuse University women's rowing team was ranked No. 13 nationally in the final USRowing/CRCA Poll presented by Pocock Racing Shells, as announced on Wednesday morning.
It marks the highest Syracuse has been ranked in the coaches' poll since April 2, 2003 and is the best finish in the final rankings since the 2002 season.
The Orange outperformed or matched their seeding in each of the three events they competed in at last weekend's national championship regatta. The first varsity eight crew recorded the top finish of the event, placing 12th overall.
Without a doubt, the 2016 season was a memorable one for the Syracuse women's rowing program. The team defeated Harvard for the first time since 2001, recorded its best finish as a league member at the ACC Championship, and earned its second trip as a team to the NCAA Championship.
The future is certainly bright for the Orange program. 18 of the 23 total student-athletes that competed at the 2016 NCAA Championship will return for the 2017 campaign.
