Taurean Thompson, a 6-10 forward who attended Brewster Academy (N.H.) for the past year, has signed a financial aid offer and committed to the Syracuse University men's basketball program, according to Coach Jim Boeheim.
Thompson, a four-star recruit, was ranked 75th in the 2016 ESPN 100. He was ranked 85th overall by Scout.com and 84th in the Rivals.com 2016 ratings.
Coached by Jason Smith at Brewster Academy, Thompson played for a Bobcats' squad which finished 2015-16 with a 25-10 overall record. Brewster Academy lost in the quarterfinals of the National Prep Championships to eventual title-winning Hargrave Academy, 91-87 in overtime. Thompson had 23 points and 10 rebounds in the defeat.
Thompson participated in the 2016 Jordan Brand Regional Classic and contributed 27 points and 13 rebounds for Team New York, which defeated Team East, 148-128.Â
Prior to attending Brewster Academy, Thompson prepped at St. Anthony's High School (N.J.) and was guided by Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley Sr. In 2014-15, the Friars were 28-2 and reached the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Non-Public B Tournament title game.
Guard Tyus Battle from St. Joseph's High School (N.J.) and forward Matthew Moyer from South Kent Prep (Conn.) signed National Letters of Intent with Syracuse during the early signing period in November 2015. A fourth member of the 2016 recruiting class, John Gillon, transferred to Syracuse from Colorado State. Gillon, who will be eligible immediately and for one season, earned a bachelor's degree at Colorado State.
