
Team USA Holds On To Defeat France, 100-97

Team USA finished off preliminary play with an unblemished, 5-0 record, thanks to a Sunday victory against France, 100-97.
The Americans built a double-digit advantage in the game before the French rallied in the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer from Carmelo Anthony put Team USA ahead 98-90. A basket from DeMarcus Cousins had the Americans leading 100-90 with 1:25 left. France scored the final seven points of the game.
Team USA shot 35-of-63 from the field (.556) and had 32 assists on the 35 baskets. France was forced to play without Tony Parker, who missed the game with an injury.
Coach Mike Krzyzewski's club has secured the top spot in its pool. Team USA now prepares for the Olympic quarterfinals, which begin Wednesday.
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim is an assistant coach with Team USA and SU assistant Mike Hopkins is a court coach with the program.

"We're really pleased to finish pool play 5-0. Offensively we made up some big strides this afternoon," said USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski. "When we had leads, our defense let up. So, we have to keep working on the defense, but I think a lot of positive things on the offensive end today and going forward.
Klay Thompson had his best offensive showing of the 2016 Rio Olympics, producing 30 points. He was 9-of-16 from the field, including 7-of-13 on 3-point tries, and made 5-of-7 free throws.
