Olympic Run Ends to Germany

A late push wasn't enough to overcome a 2-0 first quarter deficit, and Alyssa Manley and the USA Field Hockey team had its medal hopes dashed by Germany on Monday in the Olympic quarterfinal.
The Germans scored two first quarter goals, with the U.S. answering one with four minutes to play in regulation and had even more chances after, but couldn't convert the equalizer.
Despite not reaching the medal round, it was still an impressive run for the Americans, which won a program record four games this year in Pool B, eventually earning the No. 2 seed out of the group stage after finishing last in 2012.
For Manley, it was also a successful experience. The youngest member of the Olympic roster and only 2015 collegian on the team, Manley saw action in all-six USA games as a reserve, playing in crucial times during her first Olympics. The 2015 Honda Sports Award recipient for the National Champion Orange squad, Manley will soon have another 'Cuse teammate on the U.S. National Team, when goalkeeper Jess Jecko joins the roster in September.Â
In addition to Manley and Jecko, head coach Ange Bradley also has Laura Hurff (U21) and Jen Bleakney (U19) on U.S. age group teams as well, representing the Orange at each level.
