
Kerpestein Advances to Final at World Championships

Back in the water on Sunday in the Netherlands
ROTTERDAM, Netherlands – In his home country of the Netherlands, incoming freshman Pieter Kerpestein of the Syracuse University men's rowing team advanced to the final of the men's eight competition at the 2016 World Rowing Junior Championships on Friday morning.
Kerpestein and the Dutch eight crew covered the 2,000-meter course in 5:59.160 to finish in second place in its repêchage on Friday. The Netherlands' top junior boat will be back on the water on Sunday in the final race of the day.
Kerpestein was not the only Orange competing at the World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Rising junior Mike Glaude and rising sophomore Nick Tavares competed in the U23 competition for the United States and Canada, respectively.
Glaude and partner Michael Yaron placed 15th in the men's double sculls competition. In the third-level final on Thursday, the American pair finished in 6:45.600, less than one second behind Estonia.
In the men's coxed four, Tavares and his Canadian teammates finished in ninth place. In the second-level final on Thursday, the Canadians registered a time of 6:18.990, less than two seconds behind eighth-place Germany.
