SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 5/3 Syracuse will try to equal its best start in school history when it hosts No. 15/11 Boston College on Friday, Sept. 16. The Orange enter the 7 p.m. match at the SU Soccer Stadium with a 6-0 record, including a 1-0 mark in ACC play. Admission to the game, which is a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament quarterfinal, is free of charge.
Â
Fans who sit on the "hill" at the SU Soccer Stadium will receive free thundersticks. Friday is also World Soccer and Greek Night at the Stadium. Fans who can't make it to the match can follow live stats on Cuse.com.
Â
Syracuse will try to go to 7-0 to start the season for the second time in school history. The 1984 squad began the season with seven consecutive wins and ended the year with a 14-5-2 mark. The Eagles come into the match with a 4-1 overall mark. Syracuse, Boston College, Louisville and Wake Forest are tied for the top spot in the ACC Atlantic Division with three points apiece.
Â
ORANGE REWIND
Freshman Johannes Pieles scored with 2:50 remaining in regulation to give Syracuse a 1-0 victory against Hofstra on Tuesday night at the SU Soccer Stadium. Sophomore goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert made three saves as the Orange recorded their second consecutive shutout and fourth of the season.
Â
THE SERIES
Syracuse and Boston College will meet for the 29th time on Friday. The Eagles own a 16-11-1 advantage in the all-time series. The schools met twice last season, the second coming in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. The Orange broke through on its 14th corner kick of the match as Ben Polk scored on a header off of Liam Callahan's service into the box. That was the only goal Syracuse would need as it posted the 1-0 victory and earned the program's first trip to the national semifinals.
Â
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Boston College enters Friday's match with a 4-1 overall record. The Eagles defeated Duke, 1-0, last Saturday in the ACC opener for both schools. Maxmilian Schulze-Geisthovel is Boston College's leading scorer with eight points on a team-high four goals. Simon Enstrom has added three goals, while Callum Johnson has recorded three assists. Cedric Saladin has played every minute in goal for Boston College. The redshirt freshman has a 0.80 goals-against average and a .833 save percentage this season.
