Orange Put Winning Streak on the Line at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – Syracuse goes for its eighth consecutive victory to start the season when it takes on Cornell on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Match time in Ithaca, N.Y. is set for 7 p.m.

RECORD-TYING START
Syracuse defeated Boston College last Friday night for its seventh straight win to start the season. It marks the second time in school history that the Orange have started the season with a 7-0 record. The last team to accomplish the feat was the 1984 squad. Syracuse has never started the season with eight consecutive victories.

STRONG DEFENSE
The Orange's defense posted its second straight shutout and fifth of the season in the 2-0 win against Boston College. Syracuse did not allow the Eagles to get off a shot in the second half. The Orange's 0.41 goals-against average ranks ninth in the nation.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell enters Tuesday's match with a 0-5-2 record. The Big Red is coming off a 2-0 loss against New Hampshire. Two of the setbacks came in overtime. Brady Dickens leads the Cornell offense with five points on a team-best two goals and an assist. Overall, four different players have scored a goal for the Big Red this season. Ryan Shellow and Mitchell Meyer have split time in goal this season. Shellow has a 1.56 goals-against average and .760 save percentage, while Meyer has a .555 save percentage and a 2.41 goals-against average.

THE SERIES
Tuesday's match will be the 69th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Cornell. The Big Red lead the all-time series, 34-27-7, but the Orange have a 7-0-1 record in the last eight matches with Cornell. The last meeting between the two schools took place at the SU Soccer Stadium on Sept. 16, 2014. Juuso Pasanen scored in the 18th minute and Syracuse went on to post a 3-0 victory.

Syracuse returns to ACC play on Friday, Sept. 23 against Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind. at 7 p.m. The Fighting Irish were ranked No. 1 in last week coach's poll before losing to Louisville on Friday night.
