SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the first time in over a month, the Syracuse women's hockey team will play at home in the Tennity Ice Pavilion on Friday and Saturday. The Orange host College Hockey America foe Penn State for the first conference series of 2017.
Â
Conference implications will be on the line as one point separate the two teams in CHA standings. Syracuse (5-10-5, 4-2-2 CHA) currently resides in second place with 10 points and Penn State (5-13-4, 4-3-1 CHA) is in third with nine conference points.
Â
Syracuse came back from the winter break with two non-conference road games against No. 6 Boston College and Cornell. Five different Orange players scored during the course of those two games. Alysha Burriss leads Syracuse in scoring with 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists) this season.
Â
Penn State is coming off a pair of games against Ohio State. The Nittany Lions were shut out in both games, 5-0 and 6-0. Laura Bowman leads the team with 25 points (14 goals, 11 assists) this season, which is the third highest points total in the conference.
Â
The two teams have met 18 times in series history, including five last season. The last meeting was a three-overtime thriller in the CHA Tournament. Syracuse advanced to the championship game on a goal from Stephanie Grossi in the third overtime.
Â
Both games are free to the public and Friday's game will be streamed on Cuse TV. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Â
Following Saturday's game, Tennity will be open for a free skate period with members of the Orange. Syracuse will also be a part of an open skate at Clinton Square Ice Rink on Monday at 4 p.m. Admission is free for that event.
