Costales, Grossi Push Orange Past Penn State

Both Emily Costales and Stephanie Grossi had three points in Friday's game.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Fueled by Stephanie Grossi and Emily Costales, the Syracuse women's hockey team rebounded with a 3-1 win against Penn State on Friday night at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Both players finished with three points in the College Hockey America showdown.
Costales wasted no time getting the Orange on the board. Just 1:42 into the game, the junior snuck in Grossi's rebounded shot. Larissa Martyniuk also had an assist on the play. In the second period, Grossi got a goal of her own and this time Costales and Savannah Rennie served it up. Costales scored her second of the evening at the end of the second, again on a Grossi assist.
Syracuse improves to 5-2-2 in the CHA and 6-10-5 overall. The win put the Orange three points ahead of Penn State in the conference standings. The Nittany Lions drop to 4-4-1 in conference and 5-14-4 overall.
The three points by Costales were a career high and the second time this season she has had multiple goals in a game. She also scored twice at Robert Morris on Nov. 4.
Grossi now leads the team with 16 points this season after her performance against the Nittany Lions. The junior also moves up to fifth place on the all-time scoring list at Syracuse with 82 career points.
Abbey Miller finished with 16 saves on the night. Penn State came out firing in the third period, registering 10 shots on goal. The Nittany Lions broke through three minutes into the third to avoid the shutout.
The Orange outshot Penn State, 37-17, on the night.
The two teams will take the ice again on Saturday at Tennity. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. Fans are encouraged to stick around after the game for an open skate with the Orange.
