Thevenin Breaks Record at Ramapo Opener

The Syracuse track and field teams kicked off 2017 in a fast way Friday night, when the Orange took home numerous victories and a school record at the Ramapo Opener.
Tia Thevenin kicked off the year with a school record in the 60-meter hurdles. She crossed the line in 8.32 seconds, besting the previous record of 8.34 seconds which was shared by Veronica Dyer (2000) and Opal Jones (2002).
Behind Thevenin, Danielle Delgado (8.52) and Aviana Goode (8.87) finished in second and third to sweep the podium.

On the men's side, David Gilstrap (7.87) won the same event, with Richard Floyd (8.12) and Chevis Armstead (8.35 in fourth and sixth respectively. Alum Ramon Sosa (7.95) took second behind Gilstrap.
Goode also went on to win the long jump in the meet, leaping to a distance of 5.49 meters. Ebhani Blackwood (12.31 meters) and Regine Hunter (11.59 meters) took first and second in the triple jump as well for 'Cuse.

Kadejhia Sellers continued the strong performances, cruising to a time of 24.02 in the 200-meter dash, just 0.12 seconds off her own school record in the event. Freshman Dasia Pressley was right on her heels in third (24.99) separated only by alum Flings Owusu-Agyapong, who took second. Victoria Parker finished fifth 25.25, making four Orange (three current) in the top-five of the event.

Kashif Miller won the men's 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 22.22 seconds.

Justice Richardson won the 60-meter dash in convincing fashion, crossing the line in 7.69 seconds.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Blackwood, Delgado, Cheyenne Trigg and Sellers dominated the field, winning by 14 seconds over Rowan in a time of 3:48.44 seconds.
Pascal Bastien took seventh in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 51.60 seconds. Randall Johnson placed third in the high jump, clearing 2.01 meters. Johnson then took second in the long jump, leaping to a mark of 7.03 meters.

The Orange return to action on Saturday at the Cornell Upstate Challenge.
