Sets program record with fourth honor of the season
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second consecutive week and fourth time this season, senior guard Alexis Peterson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Peterson becomes the first student-athlete in program history to collect conference player of the week accolades four times in a single season. Orange all-time leading scorer Kayla Alexander '13 was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on three occasions during the 2010-11 campaign.
A child and family studies major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, Peterson averaged 37.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 assists in two league games. The senior guard has scored at least 10 points in 39 straight games.
Peterson tallied a personal-best 45 points, setting a program single-game record, against No. 23/22 NC State on Jan. 12. It also marked the most points scored by an individual, male or female, in the history of the Carrier Dome. She also set a Syracuse single-game record with 17 free throws made against the Wolfpack.
The Columbus, Ohio native followed up her historic performance with a 29-point effort at Georgia Tech on Jan. 15. In the process, she passed Brianna Butler and Erica Morrow on the program's all-time scoring list and now ranks third in Orange history with 1,667 career points.
Peterson and Syracuse return to the court on Thursday night when they take on No. 7/7 Florida State on the road. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
