SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's hockey team picked up a bounce back 5-1 win against No. 7 Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
The Orange took a 1-0 lead four minutes into the first period behind a goal from Emily Costales. Larissa Martyniuk found Savannah Rennie in traffic. Rennie passed it on one touch to an open Costales who finished it. The Colonials responded with a goal of their own seconds into the second period, evening up the score.
Half way through the second period, Alysha Burriss put Syracuse back ahead for good. Jessica Sibley passed to Heather Schwarz after a takeaway. Schwarz found a streaking Burriss on the opposite side of the net for the score. It was her first game-winner of the season.
The Orange weren't done scoring in the second period. Stephanie Grossi added two goals to give Syracuse breathing room. Her first goal came off a feed from Emily Costales and the second came on a breakaway. The final goal of the evening came in the third period when Brooke Avery was able to launch the puck into an empty Robert Morris net.
Goaltender Abbey Miller finished with 28 saves in the game and held the Colonials to only one goal, 2.3 less than their average. Miller has an impressive 1.78 goals against average on the season.
Syracuse will have an off week before hosting Mercyhurst on Feb. 10 and 11. The Orange split with the Lakers earlier in the season in Eerie, Pa.
