Syracuse defeats Clemson, 88-62
CLEMSON, S.C. – Syracuse head women's basketball Quentin Hillsman earned his 230th victory of his career, becoming the program's winningest head coach, in an 88-62 victory at Clemson on Thursday night.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Clemson (11-4) was the first one on the board in the conference clash, but that would be the only lead the host Tigers would hold. Senior guard Alexis Peterson would combat with a 3-point field goal on the next possession and Syracuse (11-5) would never trail for the remainder of the contest.
Coming into the game, the Orange led the Atlantic Coast Conference and ranked fourth nationally in turnovers forced, averaging 24.3 turnovers forced per contest. Syracuse forced Clemson into 22 turnovers on the night, which resulted in 37 points.
Q'S TAKE
"I don't know what to say. It's not something you really think about as you're coaching. Being the all-time anything, usually you're not there long enough to get it. I am very grateful and humbled. It's great players, great staffs, great support from administration.
OF NOTE
For the second time this season, three members of the team each scored at least 20 points. Senior center Briana Day matched her season-high with 22 points, while Peterson and redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes each had 21 points.
Day moved into fourth place on the program's all-time blocks list. The Raleigh, N.C. native has blocked 218 shots in her collegiate career.
Peterson recorded her fourth double-double of the 2016-17 campaign and fifth of her career at Clemson. The Columbus, Ohio product tallied 21 points and a season-best 11 assists.
