Third-straight victory in conference competition
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's basketball team topped Boston College, 79-52, to win its third-straight Atlantic Coast Conference game in the Carrier Dome on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Syracuse (12-5) scored the first points of the game and stayed ahead the rest of the way, leading the entire game. Boston College (8-8) kept it close with the Orange, never leading by more than nine in the first half, taking a 36-31 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Syracuse used 14-3 and 16-0 runs in the second half to go ahead by double-digits and never surrendered consecutive field goals in the half to the Eagles.
Q'S TAKE
"We have to continue to be solid and play that way night-in and night-out. Just continue to keep our energy up and really pressure. I thought that our pressure got them out of their offense, the second half. They didn't run their offense. They were taking some quick shots and we got some rebounds. We were able to get back down the court in transition and play in the open floor. I thought that was the difference in the game."
OF NOTE
The Orange had four players in double figures in the game for the first time in conference play this season. Redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes led all scorers with 21 points. The Newark, N.J. native now has 1,519 career points, making her the eighth player in program history with at least 1,500 career points.
Senior guard Alexis Peterson set a new career high with 14 assists in the game, one shy of tying the program single season record set by Libby McNulty on two separate occasions in 1980 and 1982. The Columbus, Ohio product secured her sixth career double-double, adding 15 points. Senior center Briana Day scored in double digits for the second straight game with 17 points.
Senior forward Isabella Slim had her best scoring game since Nov. 14 against Siena. Slim finished with 15 points, two shy of her career high.
On the first Doggy Dome Day in the Carrier Dome, there were 178 dogs in attendance along with 1,614 humans.
