SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team (1-4-1, 0-0-0 CHA) welcomes the No. 9 Northeastern Huskies (2-3-1, 2-0-0 HE) to Tennity Ice Pavilion for a two-game series on Oct. 20 and 21. The Orange will face their second ranked opponent of the season in their second series with a Hockey East foe.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Orange split a two-game series with Providence on Oct. 13 and 14, tallying their first win of the season in game one of the series. Sophomore Kelli Rowswell recorded her second and third goals of the season in back-to-back games against the Friars, while freshman Victoria Klimek notched her first collegiate goal, a power play score in game two. The Orange battled Providence to overtime in game three but came up just short, 3-2.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
Syracuse and Northeastern have met eight times before in program history with the Huskies holding the 4-1-3 advantage. The Orange's sole win over Northeastern came in 2013 when 'Cuse posted four unanswered goals in the second and third periods to knock off No. 10 Northeastern in the season opener that year.
Â
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
The Huskies rank ninth in the nation with a 2-3-1 mark this season and a 1-2-0 record in road games. Northeastern has already faced two ranked opponents this season, taking on No. 1 Clarkson to open the 2017-18 campaign and most recently facing No. 8 Colgate on the road. The Huskies are coming off a 2-0 series loss to the Raiders.
Â
'CUSE VS. HOCKEY EAST
The Orange have faced six of the nine active Hockey East teams and, in 41 total games, have posted a 16-18-7 mark. The games have always been tight with shots slightly favoring the Hockey East opponents, 168-158. The most recent outing against a Hockey East team came last weekend when the Orange split a two-game series with Providence.
Â
CHA WEEKLY HONORS
For her performance against Providence, Rowswell earned CHA Player of the Week (Oct. 16). She is currently riding a three-game goal streak and is tied for third in the conference in goals scored. Rowswell is the first player to post a goal in three consecutive games since Feb. 11-18 of this season when recent graduate Jessica Sibley ('17) tallied three over a three-game span.
Â
UP NEXT
Syracuse will have a 13-day break before hosting Boston College on Nov. 4 in non-conference action. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. and admission to all home games at Tennity Ice Pavilion is free.
