MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Syracuse women's basketball team (11-0) rolled to 11-0 after defeating Coastal Carolina (5-5), 69-57, at the Carolinas Challenge in Myrtle Beach on Sunday. Sophomore Gabrielle Cooper played her best game of the season, posting 24 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
The teams traded baskets through the first seven minutes of play until a layup by Tiana Mangakahia at the 2:49 mark sparked an 11-0 run for the Orange. Cooper accounted for six of the 11 points to give 'Cuse the 22-13 lead after 10 minutes of action.
It was a 3-point frenzy to start the second quarter as the teams combined for six consecutive threes in the first five minutes of the frame. Cooper could not miss from beyond the arc, knocking down three 3-pointers for the Orange. The Chanticleers used a pair of late layups to close the gap with Syracuse holding a 35-28 lead heading into halftime.
Freshman Amaya Finklea-Guity continued her career-night laying in a pair of baskets in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Coastal Carolina snuck back into the game thanks to a 9-0 run at the 2:27 mark to make it a five-point ball game with 10 minutes left in the contest.
The Chanticleers hung around, making it a one possession game at the start of the final frame on a layup by DJ Williams. A 3-pointer by Cooper and 10 free throws later, the Orange emerged victorious, 69-57.

Finklea-Guity poured in a career-high 18 points and pulled in eight boards for a career-outing. The freshman shot .636 (7-for-11) from the field and played a career-high 31 minutes.
Cooper had a stellar outing of her own, knocking down four 3-pointers on the way to matching her career-best at 24 points. The sophomore tallied three steals against Coastal Carolina, tying her season-high.

TWEET OF THE GAME
"It was a tough road game and, after finals week, it is always a tough game," said head coach Quentin Hillsman. "To play this game on the road is even tougher. The kids really came on in the fourth quarter and played. We have to give them a lot of credit because they played really tough."
UP NEXT
The Orange travel to Las Vegas to take on No. 5/3 Mississippi State on Dec. 21 in the Duel in the Desert. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. ET. The game will air on FloHoops and can be heard on Syracuse IMG Radio Network or Cuse.TV.
