Syracuse is riding a 7-0 win streak after defeating Northwestern in the Big 10/ACC Challenge. The Orange are one of four undefeated teams in the ACC and one of 18 teams with a perfect record in the nation. Miranda Drummond and Tiana Mangakahia combined for 55 of Syracuse's 81 points in the victory over Northwestern. Both players set new career-highs in points, 29 for Drummond and 26 for Mangakahia.
The Seawolves are 5-1 on the season, dropping their first game of the year Friday night against Cornell. Stony Brook boasts one of the top scoring defenses in the nation, limiting opponents to an average of 47.0 points per game, good for third in the nation. Junior Shania Johnson leads the Seawolves, averaging 13.0 points per game.
Â
KEEP IT ROLLING
The Orange sit at 7-0 on the season, marking just the ninth time in program history that Syracuse has started the season with seven consecutive wins. It's the best start for the Orange since the 2013-14 season when the team won eight straight games to open the year.
Â
Five of the nine 7-0 starts have come under the direction of head coach Quentin Hillsman, including a program-best 12-game winning streak to open the 2009-10 season. When starting the season 7-0, the Orange have posted a winning record in eight of their nine campaigns. The only losing season came in 1997-98 when the team went 12-15.
Â
A HELPING HAND
Mangakahia continues to impress, averaging 11.9 assists per game through seven outings this season. She currently leads the nation in assists (83) and assists per game (11.9) and has accumulated six double-doubles this year, good for third in the country.
Â
The Australia native has posted 10 or more assists in seven consecutive games, the only NCAA Division I basketball athlete to accomplish that feat this season. Her 17 assists against Vanderbilt are the most single-game assists by a female Division I basketball player this year.
