Five Games, One Exhibition Await Orange
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse continues its 6-3 season this weekend in Orlando at the Citrus Classic. The Orange will face five NCAA Div. I teams at the ESPN Wide World of Sports, while facing the Czech Republic National Team in an exhibition scrimmage. Game information is listed below.
Syracuse meets the No. 3 ranked Gators for just the second time on the diamond, as the pair first faced off in 2013 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in California. Florida was ranked No. 5 nationally at the time, and defeated the Orange, 5-1. UF leads the all-time series, 1-0.
The Gators are 10-1 on the season, with the only loss coming from Maryland last weekend at Florida's home tournament. Florida finished last season with a 56-7 record, as the Gators made it to the NCAA Super Regionals. Florida hosted SEC rival Georgia in the regional, and fell in back-to-back games to end the season.
The Orange meet the Eagles for the first time in the history of both programs this weekend. Liberty began 2017 with a 5-0 showing at the Dot Richardson Invitational before traveling to the Mary Nutter Classic in California and losing four-straight matchups.
The Eagles were 31-28 last season and 16-8 in Big South Conference play. Liberty closed out the 2016 regular season with a three-game sweep of Gardner-Webb before tallying a 1-2 record in the Big South tournament to end the season.
