
'Cuse Begins CHA Tourney Play Friday vs. RIT

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's hockey team will begin postseason play on Friday, March 3 in the semifinal round of the CHA Tournament at the HARBORCENTER in Buffalo, N.Y. The Orange will face Rochester Institute of Technology. The game is set to begin at approximately 7 p.m.

ORANGE GOING INTO THE TOURNAMENT
Syracuse clinched a first round bye in the conference tournament after earning a second place finish with 30 conference points, two points behind regular season champions Robert Morris.

The Orange are coming off a sweep of Penn State last weekend. In the first game, the 'Cuse offense flourished, outscoring the Nittany Lions, 5-1. In the second game, the Orange defense held Penn State to a 2-0 shutout.

'Cuse is led in scoring by juniors Stephanie Grossi, Emily Costales and Alysha Burriss. Grossi leads all Orange with 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists) on the season. Costales leads the team in assists with 16 and has added nine goals. Burriss is third on the team with 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists).

Since the New Year, 13 different Orange members have scored. In total, Syracuse has outscored opponents 45-23 in 2017.

Defensively, Syracuse secured nine shutouts this season, a new program record. Goaltender Abbey Miller was responsible for eight of those shutouts, also a new program single-season record. She held seven conference opponents scoreless, breaking a CHA record. Miller holds a 1.61 goals against average for the season, the best mark in the league.

SYRACUSE'S OPPONENT
RIT is the highest seed advancing to the semifinals after defeating No. 4 Penn State. No. 3 Mercyhurst was eliminated by No. 6 Lindenwood.Â
Syracuse and RIT met just two weeks ago, with the Orange taking both games. Earlier in the season, 'Cuse and RIT tied in Syracuse and then the Orange won on the road in Rochester the next day.Â

CHA REGULAR SEASON AWARDS
At Wednesday night's CHA banquet, five Orange members earned conference regular season awards. Sophomore Allie Munroe won the Best Defenseman award and earned First Team All-Conference honors. Junior Abbey Miller received the Goaltending Trophy and was named Second Team All-Conference. Junior Stephanie Grossi joined Munroe on the first team. Freshmen Lindsay Eastwood and Savannah Rennie were named to the All-Rookie team.
