Tennis Tops Louisville; Plays at Florida State Sunday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's tennis team jumped out to an early lead on Friday afternoon against Louisville to earn a 5-2 win at Drumlins Tennis Center.
The Orange (6-8, 3-4 ACC) have now won three of their last four matches and two of their last three against conference foes. Syracuse will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to No. 50 Florida State.
In doubles, Louisville (13-6, 2-5 ACC) won at the No. 3 spot but Syracuse quickly knotted the score with a 6-2 win at No. 2 by Anna Shkudun and Dina Hegab. The point would come down to the result at No. 1. Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez went back and forth and ultimately came away with a 7-4 win in the tiebreaker. The Orange are 5-1 this season when winning the doubles point.
Ramirez continued her winning streak that now stretches 11 matches and improved to 12-1 on the season in singles. The freshman defeated Aleksandra Mally at the No. 1 spot to move to 7-0 against ACC opponents. Of her 12 wins, 11 have come in straight sets.
Knutson followed with a three-set victory at No. 2. After falling behind in the first set, Knutson impressively won her next two sets, 6-1, 6-0. Nicole Mitchell clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Hegab claimed a three-set victory at No. 6 and has now won five straight singles matches.
Syracuse will take the court again on Sunday at noon in Tallahassee, Fla. when they take on the Seminoles (11-8, 4-5 ACC). Florida State defeated Boston College on Friday, 5-2.
