
'Cuse Falls Short at #50 Florida State, 4-3

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Syracuse women's tennis team dropped a close match on the road to No. 50 Florida State, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon.
The Seminoles (12-8, 5-5 ACC) quickly took the doubles point with 6-1 and 6-0 wins at No. 2 and 3. The Orange (6-9, 3-5 ACC) were leading at No. 1 when the point was decided.
In singles, Syracuse won at the top two spots with wins from Miranda Ramirez and Gabriela Knutson. Ramirez defended the top spot for the third straight match and improved to 13-1 on the season, including 12-straight wins. Knutson won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, to earn her eighth win of the season.
Maria Tritou fought for a three-set victory, claiming her fourth win of the season. Anna Shkudun lost after a close second set with No. 103 Julia Mikulski that came down to a tiebreaker. Dina Hegab ended her five-match winning streak with a loss at No. 5. Nicole Mitchell fell at the No. 6 spot.
Syracuse will be back in action next weekend, hosting two matches at Drumlins Country Club. The Orange will welcome NC State on Friday and Miami on Sunday.
