
Orange Trio Recognized at ACC Postgraduate Scholarship Luncheon

Syracuse standouts are three of 54 ACC student-athletes honored
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Saydee McQuay of the women's rowing team, Kaeli O'Connor of the women's lacrosse program, and men's track and field's Adam Palamar were among the 54 student-athletes chosen as 2017 Weaver-James-Corrigan Award recipients. The Syracuse student-athletes were honored at the annual Cone Health Atlantic Coast Conference Postgraduate Scholarship Luncheon presented by ESPN.
The Weaver-James-Corrigan postgraduate scholarships are awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $5,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
McQuay is a two-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Award recipient and was a 2016 All-ACC Academic Team honoree. She sat in the first varsity eight boat as a junior and helped the to a 12th-place showing at the 2016 NCAA Championship, its best finish since 2002.
A North Dartmouth, Mass. native, she was a member of the second varsity eight boat as a sophomore and rowed in the first varsity four crew as a freshman, where she collected ACC Crew of the Week accolades after the team's performance at the Monticello Invitational in 2014. She is majoring in biology and neuroscience in the College of Arts and Sciences at SU.
O'Connor is a three-year starter on defense for the Orange. Last season, she posted career highs in ground balls (38) and caused turnovers (18). She helped the Syracuse defense hold its opponents to less than 10 goals 12 times. Off the field, O'Connor has volunteered for the Special Olympics in Syracuse and as a Santa's Helper in the Baltimore area, assisting in assembling and delivering packages that provide Christmas meals and gifts for 1,000 families in need.
A Cockeysville, Md. native, O'Connor has been named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll as well as the ACC All-Academic Team. She is majoring in biology in the College of Arts and Sciences.
A two-time All-American on the track, Palamar was a key component in the Syracuse men's track and field team winning its first ACC Championship in 2016, his first season with the program. He went on to finish eighth in the mile at the NCAA Championships to earn USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors after taking third in the same event and second in the DMR during the 2016 ACC Indoor Championship.
During the outdoor season, the Ottawa, Ontario native earned Second Team All-America honors in the 1500-meters. In addition to his success on the track, Palamar has been a star off it as well. He is majoring in biology at SU, twice earning ACC All-Academic honors for track and twice earning USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
