Gait Named ACC Coach of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse head coach Gary Gait is the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year. The annual award was voted on by the league's eight head coaches and were announced on Wednesday, May 3.

Gait guided the Orange to a second-place finish in the ACC regular-season standings with a 5-2 record. Overall, Syracuse is 15-6, which includes seven wins against teams ranked in the top 20 in the latest RPI. One of those victories came at No. 2 North Carolina on April 15. The Orange defeated No. 20 Virginia Tech and No. 12 Virginia in the ACC Tournament to advance to the finals for the fourth consecutive year, where it lost to the Tar Heels.

It marks the second time in the last three years that Gait has earned the ACC Coach of the Year award. He also earned the honor in 2015. In addition, Gait was also the 2011 and 2012 BIG EAST Coach of the Year.

The No. 9 Orange await the NCAA Tournament pairings, which will be announced on Sunday, May 7 at 9 p.m. The selection show will air on NCAA.com.
