SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 11 Syracuse men's rowing team will compete for a national championship, beginning on Friday morning, at the 2017 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.

Syracuse's first varsity eight crew will hit the water first in its heat at 11:50 a.m. EST. The second varsity eight boat will compete at 1 p.m., while the third varsity eight crew will race at 1:40 p.m.

The top two finishers from each heat will advance to the A/B semifinals, while the remaining boats will run the course again in the afternoon repechages. The winners from the repechages will also move on to the A/B semifinals with a chance remaining at a national title.

Saturday's semifinal competition will start at 12:25 p.m., while the event will conclude on Sunday morning with the finals.

The Orange enter the annual national championship regatta ranked No. 11 nationally in the most recent USRowing Coaches Poll. Syracuse has appeared in the top 20 of the coaches' rankings in each of the past 96 poll releases.

Last season, each of the Orange's three crews finished in 15th place overall at the IRA Championship Regatta on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. It marked the first varsity eight boat's best finish at the annual national championship regatta since placing fifth during the 2012 season.
