Six Named to ACC All-Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seniors Kaeli O'Connor and Devon Parker lead a group of six members of the Orange named to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) All-Academic Team, which was released on Tuesday, June 27. The six selections tied for the most honorees for any school in the league.

O'Connor and Parker were joined on the All-Academic Team by junior Neena Merola, sophomore Natalie Wallon, redshirt freshman Cara Quimby and freshman Emily Hawryschuk. All six are making their first appearance on the ACC All-Academic Team.

O'Connor anchored Syracuse's defense that held its opponents to less than 10 goals eight times in 2017. She ranked second on the team with a career-high 40 ground balls to go along with 14 caused turnovers and 19 draw controls. She earned All-Northeast Region First Team honors and was an ILWomen Honorable Mention All-American. In addition, O'Connor was voted to the All-ACC First Team, the ACC All-Tournament Team and the All-ECAC squad. The biology major was one of three Syracuse student-athletes to earn an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship. O'Connor was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.

Parker recorded career high in points (41), goals (29), assists (12), ground balls (19) and caused turnovers (6) in 2017. She ranked fourth on the team in scoring, third in goals and tied for third in assists. Parker earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week and Epoch/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors after scoring a career-high five goals to help the Orange overcome a nine-goal deficit against Virginia. Parker, a television, radio and film major, earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.

Merola played in all 22 games in 2017, making 12 starts. She recorded career highs in points (26), goals (19) and assists (7). Merola recorded at least one point in 18 games. She posted single-game career highs with two goals, an assist, three points, four ground balls and two caused turnovers in the Orange's win against Binghamton. A health and exercise science major, Merola was a member of the Athletic Director's Honor in both the fall and spring semesters.

Wallon earned IWLCA All-America Third Team honors as well as All-Northeast Region accolades after posting career highs in points (31), goals (29), assists (2), ground balls (39), caused turnovers (22) and draw controls (27). She was also selected to the All-ACC Second Team and the ACC All-Tournament Team. Wallon led the team in caused turnovers and ranked third in ground balls. She recorded two or more goals in nine contests and had two or more points in 10 games. The public relations major earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.

Quimby played in all 22 games and posted 14 goals and nine assists for 23 points. She dished out a career-high three assists to help Syracuse upset No. 2 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and posted a career-best four points (2g, 2a) against Virginia Tech in the first round of the ACC Tournament. Quimby, who is majoring in health and exercise science, was a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.

Hawryschuk earned All-Northeast Region Second Team accolades after posting 48 points and 38 goals. She ranked second on the team in both categories. Hawryschuk tallied three or more goals in a game eight times in her rookie campaign. She was named Inside Lacrosse's Rookie of the Week after posting career highs in points (6), goals (5) ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (2) in the Orange's overtime win against Virginia Tech. The next week, Hawryschuk earned the ACC Rookie of the Week award after scoring four goals in Syracuse's upset of No. 2 North Carolina. The finance major earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.

Syracuse finished the 2017 season with a record of 15-7. The Orange were the ACC Tournament runner-up and earned the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament, earning a first-round bye for the fifth consecutive year.
