
Syracuse Duo Named to US U23 National Team

Messner and Santora will compete in Bulgaria in July
PRINCETON, N.J. – Rising seniors Noah Messner and Dominic Santora of the Syracuse men's rowing team both have been named to the United States U23 national team for the upcoming 2017 World Rowing U23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, USRowing announced on Thursday.
Messner and Santora will compete in the American men's coxed eight crew at the annual international regatta. The World Rowing U23 Championships will kick off on July 19 and wrap up four days later.
A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Messner has held a spot in the top Orange boat each of the past two seasons. A public health major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, he helped Syracuse to an eighth-place showing at the 2017 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta, its sixth top-10 finish under head coach Dave Reischman.
Santora, a product of Cleveland, Ohio, has served as the coxswain of the SU first varsity eight crew each of the last two years. A public health major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, he guided the Orange to a victory against No. 6 Boston University for the Conlan Cup, the highest ranked boat Syracuse had defeated in the regular season in Reischman's tenure.
