SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 8/11 Syracuse opens play in the Central New York Classic on Friday, Sept. 1 when it hosts Princeton at 3 p.m. The Orange are 2-0 after sweeping a pair of road matches last weekend, while Friday's game is the season opener for the Tigers. Admission and parking at the SU Soccer Stadium are free of charge.

NEWCOMERS SHINE ON OPENING WEEKEND
Several newcomers made their Orange debuts last weekend and played a key role in Syracuse's two wins. Freshman Tajon Buchanan scored the game winner in overtime at St. Louis on an assist from Hugo Delhommelle, who transferred to Syracuse from Lander University. Another freshman, Petter Stangeland, scored the go-ahead goal against SIUE with 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Friday's match is the season opener for Princeton. The Tigers posted a record of 7-7-3 last season. Princeton must replace its leading scorer from last season, Greg Seifert, who posted 11 goals and 26 points.

Junior Sean McSherry is Princeton's leading returning scorer. He registered three goals and three assists in 2016 and was voted to the All-Ivy League Second Team. Sophomore Jacob Schachner is the only Tigers' goalkeeper who has collegiate experience. He played in four games last season, making two starts, and recorded a 0.92 GAA and a .700 save percentage.

THE SERIES
Friday's match marks the first-ever meeting between Syracuse and Princeton on the pitch.
