SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse tennis team moved to 2-0 on the season after downing in-state rival Colgate, 7-0, Friday afternoon at Drumlins Country Club. This victory marks the first time since 2009 that Syracuse has posted back-to-back 7-0 wins to start the season.

"I felt like everyone played hard and stayed focused," said head coach Younes Limam. "It's never easy to play an opponent that, deep down, you know you should beat so I thought the team did a tremendous job today."

Syracuse rocked the doubles portion of the event, tallying a win in all three matches. The No. 1 singles (Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez) and the No. 2 singles (Maria Tritou and Dina Hegab) each recorded 6-0 wins in the doubles round. The third duo of Libi Mesh and Sofya Golubovskaya capped the Syracuse doubles victory with a 6-1 defeat of Colgate.

Knutson kicked off the match at No. 1 singles, defeating Colgate's Mackenzie Deeter in decisive fashion, 6-1, 6-0. Ramirez finished her singles match with a 6-0, 6-1 while the No. 3, 5 and 6 singles of Tritou, Hegab and Mitchell, respectively, all recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories.

In the final match of the day, Mesh took an early 6-0 lead in set one, but faced much tougher competition in set two, battling to a 6-3 decision. Her victory solidified the 7-0 win for the Orange, their second in a row.

The Orange are back in action on Sunday when they host Columbia. First serve is set for 11 a.m. and admission to all matches at Drumlins Country Club is free.
