SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse hockey team continues College Hockey America (CHA) play this weekend, traveling to conference foe Lindenwood for a two-game series. The first contest of the weekend is set for 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, and the puck drops in the series finale at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Orange own a 21-5-2 all-time series record against Lindenwood, including a 9-2-1 mark when on the road. The Lions have won two of the last three meetings, however, with both victories coming via shutouts.
Syracuse picked up a 5-4 road win in the most recent meeting (Feb. 17, 2018) between the two programs, snapping its two-game series losing streak. Returning redshirt junior defenseman Lindsay Eastwood, sophomore forward Emma Polaski, senior defenseman Allie Munroe and redshirt senior forward Brooke Avery accounted for four of the Orange's five goals in the victory.
WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ORANGE
Syracuse enters the weekend 0-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in CHA play, suffering a season-opening setback at No. 6 Boston College before losing twice at home against Mercyhurst last weekend.
Sophomore defenseman Jessica DiGirolamo is the Orange's leading point-getter through three games this season. She paces the team with three points (one goal, two assists), followed by freshman forward Lauren Bellefontaine (one goal, one assist), Avery (one goal, one assist) and freshman forward Abby Moloughney (two assists), who each have two points.
Goaltenders senior Maddi Welch and junior Ady Cohen have split the duties in net this season. Cohen made the first start of her career last Saturday against Mercyhurst, tallying 23 saves (.958 save percentage) in the Orange's 1-0 setback.
SCOUTING LINDENWOOD
The Lions are 1-3-0 overall and 0-0-0 in CHA play entering Friday. Lindenwood has not played since Saturday, Oct. 6, and earned its first victory of the season one day before, winning 4-1 at Union.
Sophomore forward Sierra Burt leads the team with two goals, and six other Lindenwood student-athletes have scored at least once this season. Junior forward Taylor Girard has a team-high three assists and shares the team-high in points (4) with Burt.
Goaltenders senior Jolene deBruyn and freshman Sophie Wolf each have two starts under their belts through the first four games. deBruyn owns a 2.00 goals against average and 64 saves (.941 save percentage) while Wolf has a 4.56 goals against average and 58 saves (.866 save percentage) this year.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
Syracuse is on the road again, heading an hour due south to play in-state rival Cornell Tuesday. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
