
Orange's Fall Season Concludes at ITA Championships

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior Gabriela Knutson, junior Miranda Ramirez, sophomore Sofya Golubovskaya and freshman Sofya Treshcheva closed out the Syracuse tennis team's fall season at the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz., over the weekend.
HOW IT UNFOLDED
The tournament, which began Wednesday, Nov. 7 and concluded Sunday, Nov. 11, featured singles and doubles championship action.
In singles play, Knutson suffered a setback to Michigan's Giulia Pairone in the first round of the championships, losing 2-6, 4-6. Knutson was eliminated from the singles draw, but had an opportunity to compete for the consolation title.
She opened consolation play with a straight-set 6-2, 7-5 win over Wake Forest's Emma Davis before falling to Kansas' Janet Koch in the second round by the score of 6-7(8), 2-6.
Syracuse's Golubovskaya and Treshcheva teamed up in doubles play, while Ramirez paired with Knutson. LSU's Eden Richardson and Jessica Golovin narrowly defeated Golubovskaya and Treshcheva in the opening round, eliminating the Orange duo from claiming the title by the score of 6-2, 6-7(5), 1-0(9).
Knutson and Ramirez, meanwhile, also lost a closely contested first-round doubles match. Up against Makenna Jones and Cameron Morra of North Carolina, Syracuse's top-ranked pair lost 6-7(2), 3-6.
In the doubles consolation draw, Golubovskaya and Treshcheva were bested by Auburn's Taylor Russo and Sophie Graver 5-7, 6-3, 0-1(8). Knutson and Ramirez picked up a walkover win versus Alexa Bortles and Isolde de Jong of Ole Miss before losing to South Carolina's Megan Davies and Rachel Rohrabacher by the score of 6-7(5), 7-5, 0-1(6).
