SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange tallied their first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season after defeating Boston College 5-2, to move to 5-1 on the season. The Orange remain perfect at home this season with a chance to extend that streak to six games on Sunday.
"The ladies showed a lot of toughness today and did a great job managing adversity," said head coach Younes Limam. "You know you're a part of something special when the team wants to be great for one another the way we do. They feed off each other's energy and, in this sport, at this level, that goes a long way."
The Orange got things rolling in the doubles round as the No. 1 pair of Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez) and the No. 2 duo of Sofya Golubovskaya and Anna Shkudun each pulled out a pair of 6-4 victories to put the Orange up 1-0.
Ramirez quickly made it 2-0 Orange after cruising to a pair of 6-0 victories over her Boston College opponent at No. 3 singles. Despite being down early in the first set, Knutson battled back and took a two-set victory over Boston College's Asiya Dair (6-4, 6-1) to pull the Orange to within one point of a match victory.
With a 3-1 lead in the match, it was Dina Hegab at the No. 6 singles who tallied the match-clinching point for the Orange for the second consecutive match, defeating her Boston College opposition in two sets (6-4, 6-4).
'Cuse and Boston College split the final two matches as Golubovskaya played a tight three-set match to close out the match for the Orange for a 5-2 final score.
